This map of Eastern Europe expands beyond its Cold War definition to include a vast region stretching east of Germany and Switzerland. It highlights key countries, cities, and transportation routes across this diverse area.

Eastern Europe, once considered everything behind the Iron Curtain, now covers a much larger area east of Germany and Switzerland. This map includes Italy, Greece, the Balkan nations, Central European countries like Romania and Hungary, most of Ukraine and Poland, the three Baltic states, western Russia all the way to Volgograd, and a significant portion of Turkey.

The map combines road and rail information, marking motorways and major highways, with fast-train routes shown in red and regular train services in black. It also features major cruise line routes, although many have been suspended due to Covid and current political tensions involving Russia and Turkey.

This is a large-scale map, similar in scope to our Western and Central Europe maps and our earlier Scandinavia map. We have aimed to present the information as politically neutral as possible, despite challenges like the Russian occupation of Crimea and the Donetsk region of Ukraine, and ongoing debates over the official name of Macedonia. We appreciate your understanding regarding any inadvertent inaccuracies.

For simplicity, most place names are given in their English forms-for example, Roma is listed as Rome and Moscva as Moscow-since many English names align closely with local languages. However, in typical ITMB fashion, some cities retain their local names, such as Napoli for Naples and Firenze for Florence, reflecting our effort to balance different perspectives.

The map is presented at a scale of 1:2,600,000, offering a comprehensive overview of this extensive and diverse region.
