A vivid journey through light, color, and fleeting moments from David Hockney’s Yorkshire home.
When David Hockney embraced the iPhone as a new artistic tool, it unlocked fresh creative possibilities. In spring 2009, he created his first digital paintings, using bold lines and brilliant colors to depict morning landscapes directly on a screen that displayed pure light in subtle, unmixed tones.
By 2010, Hockney had moved on to the iPad, whose larger display allowed him to deepen his exploration of color, light, and line. Each artwork in this book captures a transient scene seen through the window of his Yorkshire residence. From the glowing hues of sunrise and the soft lilac skies of morning to tranquil nights and the sudden burst of spring, these images bring the outside world inside.
Details like raindrops on glass, distant nighttime lights, reflections on vases, and a variety of window-sill plants enrich the scenes. The 120 paintings, created between 2009 and 2012 and personally selected and arranged by Hockney, invite us to experience the passing of time through his eyes.
