Beskrivelse

A story about two pen pals who were perfect for each other until they actually met. Misunderstandings, secret letters, and a complicated friendship unfold over seven years.

Two kids connected by letters, bound by rules, and challenged by reality.

“We were perfect together. Until we met.” That’s what I read in her letter, and I can’t help but grin. She misses me. Back in fifth grade, our teacher paired us up as pen pals from different schools, thinking Misha was a girl because of the name. Meanwhile, the other teacher assumed Ryen was a boy like me. It didn’t take long before we realized the mix-up.

Almost immediately, we started arguing about everything, from the best take-out pizza to Android versus iPhone, and even whether Eminem is the greatest rapper ever. That was just the beginning.

For seven years, it’s been just us. Her letters come on black paper with silver ink, sometimes one a week, sometimes three in a single day. I need those letters. She’s the only one who keeps me grounded, talks me down, and accepts me completely.

We had three simple rules:

• No social media
• No phone numbers
• No pictures

We had something good going, so why mess it up? But then I stumble upon a photo of a girl online named Ryen who loves Gallo’s pizza and worships her iPhone. What are the odds? Screw it-I have to meet her. Only, I don’t expect to hate what I find.

He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, either wouldn’t be surprising. Without him, I’m losing it. I need to know someone’s still listening. It’s my fault for not getting his phone number or a picture. He could be gone forever-or right in front of me, and I wouldn’t even know.
