This is the third edition of our popular Rio map, now expanded to include an extensive view of Brazil’s south and east coasts. Rio de Janeiro remains a city full of contrasts, recently hosting the Olympics with promises of improved infrastructure. We took our time to reissue this map, waiting nine months to assess which developments had opened, which were on track, and which were unlikely to be completed.

The heart of the map focuses on the Carioca region, near the lower end of the tram line that leads to the favelas. Visitors will find new transport options, including a subway line running from the airport to the city centre and continuing south to the famous beach neighborhoods of Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon.

Beyond Rio, the map stretches to cover much of developed Brazil, spanning from São Paulo in the southwest corner to Natal in the northeast. It extends inland to Belo Horizonte and follows ordinary roads northward to Teresina on the Parnaíba River. The coastal highway passing through Salvador and Recife showcases countless beaches and historic towns.

Natal stands out as a popular beach destination, with direct flights available from Portugal. Overall, this map offers a fascinating look at Brazil’s dynamic coastal and urban landscapes, combining detailed local insights with broader regional coverage.
