The official guide to the heartwarming Danish Octo movement and its calming octopus puppets.

THE DANISH OCTO BOOK, also known as 'Spruttebogen' in English, is the definitive guide to the beloved knitted and crocheted octopus puppets that began as a comforting tool for premature babies in Denmark and have since blossomed into a global sensation.

These octopuses, with their distinctive tentacles, mimic the feeling of an umbilical cord, helping to soothe and calm infants. What started as a simple idea to help premature babies in hospitals has grown into a widespread movement, with Octo groups forming around the world and the puppets becoming a familiar presence in many Danish homes.

The story began with a devoted father whose premature daughter found comfort in a small octopus-shaped puppet. Hospital staff quickly noticed how clutching the tentacles helped the baby feel calmer and more secure. This inspired volunteers to crochet similar octopuses for neonatal units in three hospitals, giving rise to the Danish Octo Project ('Spruttegruppen').

Today, this volunteer association has many ambassadors across Denmark, providing Octos to babies in every hospital nationwide. The movement is expanding as older babies also respond positively to the octopuses, signaling a new chapter for this heartwarming phenomenon.

Alongside the inspiring story, THE DANISH OCTO BOOK offers a collection of adorable and creative knitting and crocheting patterns. These patterns blend Danish lifestyle with the mindful craft of knitting, empowering parents and caregivers to create their own comforting octopuses.

Produced in collaboration with The Danish Octo Project, this charming book is the original and official resource for anyone wanting to be part of this touching and growing movement.
