The Great Deceiver

Beskrivelse

The Great Deceiver is the next thrilling installment in Elly Griffiths' Brighton Mysteries series. Magician Max Mephisto, now divorced and living in London, is drawn into a puzzling murder case involving a fellow performer.

A tangled mystery unfolds around a magician’s assistant’s death and a community of performers in Brighton.

Max Mephisto is on his way to visit his daughter Ruby and her newborn when a familiar voice from his past calls him back. Ted English, known as the Great Deceiver, is desperate for help after his assistant Cherry is found dead in a Brighton boarding house. Ted fears he will be blamed for her murder.

Max agrees to speak with Superintendent Edgar Stephens, who is leading the investigation. Meanwhile, Cherry’s family has hired private detectives Emma Holmes (Mrs Stephens) and Sam Collins to uncover their own leads.

The boarding house is home to an eclectic group of performers, many involved in an Old Time Music Hall show on Brighton Pier. The mystery deepens with connections to a shadowy radio figure known as Pal. When another magician’s assistant is killed, Edgar suspects a serial killer is at work.

To catch the culprit, Edgar convinces Max to come out of semi-retirement and join a summer show. But the big question remains: who will step in as his new assistant? The answer surprises everyone by coming from someone very close to the team.
