While Ruth’s attention is captured by a fascinating Bronze Age weapons hoard found nearby, Nelson first believes Taylor’s death was an accidental drowning.

However, the plot thickens when a second death points to foul play. Nelson is soon called to investigate an apparent murder-suicide at the remote Black Dog Farm. The place is steeped in eerie local folklore about the Black Shuck, a ghostly hound said to appear before death. Despite the chilling reputation and a cryptic line in the owner’s suicide note, ‘He’s buried in the garden’, Nelson dismisses the superstition.
