Algonquin Park, named after the local First Nations tribe, is a remarkable symbol of conservation, covering over 7,653 square kilometers (2,955 square miles) of preserved wilderness. Since its establishment by Ontario’s government in 1893, it has remained largely untouched, with no major towns, resorts, or modern developments inside its boundaries. While Highway 60 runs along the park’s southwestern edge, providing access to about 1,200 campsites, much of the park’s interior is accessible only by canoe, maintaining its wild and pristine character.

This map highlights key features such as existing roads, campsites, hiking trails, popular canoe routes, and major attractions within Algonquin Park. On the reverse side, you’ll find a detailed map of southeastern Ontario, covering an area from Lake Huron through Toronto to Ottawa and the Quebec border. This includes all of Lake Ontario and parts of New York State, an area steeped in history dating back to the American Revolution and the settlement of Scots expelled from New York Colony in the 1780s-a personal connection for the author.

This region represents Ontario’s most densely populated and industrialized area, offering a striking contrast to the untouched wilderness of Algonquin Park. The maps are presented at scales of 1:220,000 for Algonquin Park and 1:600,000 for southeastern Ontario, providing a detailed look at both natural beauty and historical significance.
