Beskrivelse
Good Nonsense dives into the meaning of play in a world full of challenges, showing how moving both body and mind can help us face life's toughest questions.
Discovering how physical movement in nature can help us engage with the world's difficult problems.
In this philosophical journey, Sarah Austin Casson shares her experiences from around the globe and close to home-from the towering Himalayas of Nepal and the deep waters of Thailand to the dirt trails in her Los Angeles backyard. Through these adventures, she explores how we can all approach life's challenging questions with a playful spirit.
Many of us are feeling anxious these days. Back in 2019, Casson herself was overwhelmed-suffering from stress eczema and working long hours as a wilderness conservationist, weighed down by the world's pressing issues. She noticed that these heavy questions tend to sneak up on us, often at the most inconvenient moments.
Whether it was concerns about deforestation interrupting a coffee chat or worries about lithium mining's environmental impact while watching a rom-com, these questions kept demanding attention. They refused to be ignored, reminding her of the very real reasons to feel anxious.
These tough questions revolve around what actions we should take for our planet and what roles we play individually and collectively in these crises. Yet, Casson discovered that these problems felt more manageable when she engaged her body outdoors. Through running, hiking, and diving, she found the mental clarity to move beyond repetitive panic and begin to play with these issues.
Her insight is clear: while these difficult questions don’t disappear, we can learn to handle them better by embracing movement and nature. The key lies in playing with these challenges-physically and mentally-while being outside and breaking a sweat.
