Emerging as a leading figure in the revival of painting after his breakthrough New York solo show in 1979, Schnabel has expanded his creative reach far beyond traditional painting.

His sculptures bring his pictorial ideas into three-dimensional space, resembling ancient, weathered relics. As a filmmaker, he has directed acclaimed movies that portray artists and quietly heroic individuals. Additionally, Schnabel realized his architectural dream by constructing a Venetian-style palace in New York.

He once said, “I want my life to be in my work, crushed into my painting like a pressed car. If it’s not, my work is just some stuff,” a sentiment that infuses all his creations regardless of medium.
