Beskrivelse
Discover the historic path of the Great Silk Road, the ancient trade route linking Europe and China for over two millennia. This atlas traces the journey from Xi’an in the east to Antioch in the west, showcasing the route of camel caravans carrying silks, perfumes, and goods across continents.
A detailed atlas mapping the legendary Silk Road from west to east, highlighting key cities and regions along the way.
The Silk Road served as the main artery for trade between Europe and China for two thousand years, beginning in Xi’an and ending at Antioch, where goods were transferred to European ports. Caravans slowly made their way westward, transporting silks and exotic fragrances to western markets, then returned east with European products.
This 73-page atlas charts the route starting in the west at ancient Tyre (now Sour, southern Lebanon) and Samandag in Turkey. It continues east through Syria and Iraq, featuring a two-page inset map of Damascus and a detailed six-page spread of the famed city of Baghdad.
From there, the journey moves north of the Kavir Desert to Tehran, with a dedicated four-page spread, then east into Afghanistan. The atlas follows both the northern and southern routes through modern-day Samarkand and Tashkent, including additional inset maps.
The route proceeds to the Urumqi region in far-western China before concluding at Xi’an. Fully indexed, this atlas can be used to explore the Silk Road traveling either east to west or west to east, with maps presented at various scales for clarity and detail.
