The Silmarillion

Beskrivelse

The Silmarillion takes you deep into the rich history of Middle-earth, revealing the origins and epic tales that set the stage for The Lord of the Rings. This fully illustrated edition includes stunning new artwork that brings Tolkien’s world to life.

A foundational epic exploring the earliest ages of Middle-earth and the origins of its legendary characters.

This edition of The Silmarillion offers a vivid glimpse into the ancient past of Middle-earth, covering stories from the Elder Days through the Second Age and the rise of Sauron, all the way to the conclusion of the War of the Ring.

At its heart, the book tells of Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, and the fierce battles the Elves waged against him in his fortress of Angband to reclaim the Silmarils-three jewels holding the last pure light of Valinor, stolen and set into Morgoth’s iron crown.

Alongside these grand narratives, the book features shorter works that deepen the lore:

• The Ainulindale, a creation myth.
• The Valaquenta, detailing the nature and powers of the gods.
• The Akallabeth, which recounts the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age.
• “Of the Rings of Power,” covering the major events of the Third Age as told in The Lord of the Rings.

J. R. R. Tolkien worked on The Silmarillion throughout his life but never published it himself. His son Christopher Tolkien later edited the extensive manuscripts to bring this monumental work to readers, completing a lifelong literary vision.

This special edition celebrates the beginning of Tolkien’s Middle-earth saga with nearly 50 full-colour paintings by Ted Nasmith, including some never seen before. It also includes a 1951 letter from Tolkien that offers a brilliant explanation of the earlier Ages, enriching your journey through his legendary world.
