Tom of Finland introduced the iconic character Kake in 1968, a dark-haired leatherman who became a symbol of liberated gay sexuality. Over nearly two decades, Kake's adventures captured the spirit of the 1970s gay clone culture.

Back in 1965, Tom of Finland toyed with the idea of creating a recurring character for his comic panels, experimenting first with a blond named Vicky and then a Tarzan-inspired figure called Jack. It wasn’t until 1968 that he settled on Kake-a mustached, dark-haired leatherman often seen sporting a tight white T-shirt emblazoned with the word "Fucker."

Kake embodied a post-Stonewall hyper-masculine persona, traveling the world on his motorcycle like a Johnny Appleseed of gay liberation. Through Kake, Tom explored many of his own intimate fantasies, and the character’s fans helped define the gay clone aesthetic that dominated the 1970s.

From 1968 to 1986, Tom released 26 episodes of Kake’s escapades, mostly in 20-page booklets. This volume gathers all those stories into one definitive collection.
