Since the release of The Great American Pin-up by TASCHEN, global fascination with this uniquely American art form has surged dramatically. Paintings by legendary artists like Alberto Vargas, George Petty, and Gil Elvgren, which once sold for $2,000 in 1996, now command prices upwards of $200,000.

Pin-up art-drawings, paintings, and pastels portraying an idealized female face and figure designed for public display-was produced mainly between 1920 and 1970. These images appeared in calendars, magazine covers, and centerfolds. Most original paintings were discarded by publishers and calendar companies after printing, making surviving pieces incredibly rare and valuable.

This edition, inspired by the comprehensive Art of Pin-up, brings together nearly 100 artists with detailed features on the top 10 masters of the genre. Each chapter begins with a reproduction of an original calendar or magazine cover by the artist.
