Beskrivelse
This thesis explores the identity work of public sector leaders in Denmark through an autoethnographic approach. It investigates how leaders experience freedom while navigating the paradox of being both empowered and limited by their relationships with others.
Examining the complex negotiation of leadership identity amid social interdependencies.
This research delves into how leadership identity is shaped by contradictions and ambiguities, highlighting the simultaneous process of leaders shaping and being shaped by social norms and rules.
It sheds light on the temporal nature of leadership identity and the human ability to adapt to various power dynamics. This adaptability, however, carries risks: either losing a clear sense of self or failing to acknowledge others fully.
Failing to embrace the paradox of these interdependencies can lead to extremes such as dogmatism or relativism. The thesis offers valuable insights into both of these positions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced understanding in leadership identity work.
