A thrilling race to unlock a hidden fortune in a sprawling digital universe.

The real world has become a harsh place by 2044-oil is depleted, the climate is in crisis, and widespread famine, poverty, and disease plague humanity. Like many others, Wade Watts finds refuge in the OASIS, an expansive virtual paradise where anyone can be whoever they want, explore thousands of planets, and experience life beyond the grim realities outside.

Wade, along with millions of others, is captivated by the ultimate challenge left by James Halliday, the OASIS's creator. Halliday died without an heir, leaving behind a promise: the person who can solve the intricate puzzles hidden throughout the OASIS will inherit control of the virtual world and Halliday's enormous fortune.

For years, countless hopefuls have chased this elusive prize, armed only with knowledge of 20th-century pop culture, which the riddles are based on. Then Wade discovers the key to the first puzzle, thrusting him into a fierce competition against thousands of players.

This race quickly escalates beyond the virtual realm, bringing real-world dangers and consequences. Wade's journey to claim the ultimate prize will change not only his life but the fate of the world around him.
