An epic tale of power, survival, and the looming threat of destruction on the world of Roshar.

Kaladin defies expectations by surviving the harsh life of a military slave and rising to command the royal bodyguards-a first for someone of his low status as a "darkeyes." His mission is to shield the king and Dalinar from everyday threats and the deadly Assassin, Szeth, who is on a deadly spree across Roshar, eliminating rulers with mysterious powers that evade capture.

Szeth’s primary target is Highprince Dalinar, a key figure in Alethi politics and war, but the Assassin’s true master holds far deeper motives. At the same time, Shallan battles her own inner demons while carrying the heavy responsibility of preventing the return of the Voidbringers and the devastating Desolation that would end civilization. Her search for crucial secrets leads her to the Shattered Plains, a place more challenging to reach than she expected.

Meanwhile, the Parshendi, pressured by relentless Alethi assaults and dwindling numbers, face a critical decision. Guided by their war leader Eshonai, they prepare to take a desperate risk involving the very supernatural forces they once fled. The outcome of their gamble could have profound and unpredictable effects on both their people and all of Roshar.
