Bradt - Juicy Crones - Free For The Strangest Adventures

Beskrivelse

Juicy Crones celebrates the vibrant lives of women embracing their post-menopausal years with energy and passion. Jay Courtney shares her journey of discovering a colorful new chapter after retirement, blending travel, inspiration, and personal stories.

A lively tribute to women thriving in their 'third act' and redefining what it means to grow older.

After retiring from a noteworthy career in education and health, Jay Courtney found herself facing a dull, uncertain future. She realized she had no guide for this stage of life-only an inevitable 'Exit' sign. Determined to find a new path, she embarked on a quest to discover a color that truly suited her.

Combining her passion for travel with inspirational writing, Courtney uncovered a talent for connecting with women whose experiences echoed her own. In Juicy Crones, she honors those embracing their later years with enthusiasm and courage.

Drawing on her background as a Telegraph travel-writing competition winner and a former guest on Women's Hour, Courtney presents a joyous celebration of post-menopausal women adventurers. She explains, "Crones were revered as wise women, warriors, speakers of uncomfortable truths, carrying with them the wisdom of life." The "juicy" part is her playful rebuttal to the negative stereotypes often associated with older women-showing instead their beauty, vibrancy, humor, and freedom.

This debut work uniquely combines adventure and feminism, women's health and well-being, autobiography and self-help. It’s a book for the UK's 12 million 'crones,' for women adventurers, and for readers who appreciate voices like Raynor Winn, Caitlin Moran, and Helen Lewis.

The subtitle, "Free for the Strangest Adventure," taken from Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, perfectly captures the mindset that empowers a Crone to live fully and freely.
