Beskrivelse

Freud's ideas have faced significant criticism over time, with many psychologists offering alternative perspectives that challenge his original theories. Despite this, his influence on modern psychology remains undeniable.

Exploring Freud's legacy and the controversies surrounding his theories.

Freud's reputation has declined in recent years, beginning with early critiques like Melanie Klein, who proposed that infant trauma occurs earlier than Freud's Oedipal theory suggests. Later thinkers such as Daniel Stern, John Bowlby, Margaret Mahler, and Lawrence Kohlberg introduced different viewpoints that moved psychology beyond the traditional Oedipal framework.

Freud also created ambiguity around the concept of the feminine, famously referring to it as a "Dark Continent," which added to the confusion. Additionally, he left unresolved questions about identity, particularly involving the idea of two mothers and two fathers-an issue he explored in his final work, Moses and Monotheism. Some of his sexual theories were influenced by contemporaries like Albert Moll, who were also investigating similar topics at the time.

Within Freud's own circle, members of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society met regularly in his home to discuss his ideas. However, notable figures such as C. G. Jung and Alfred Adler eventually broke away, becoming what Freud called his "discontents," and went on to develop their own psychological schools of thought.

Interestingly, despite their departures, these thinkers supported Freud's vision of psychoanalysis and psychology as international disciplines, spreading their ideas worldwide. As a result, Freud is still regarded as a foundational figure in modern psychology and continues to inspire ongoing discussion and analysis.
